А я еще ругала "Продюсеров" прошлой весной... Ха! Да "Продюсеры" по сравнению с этим "Лаком для волос" (ну, насколько можно судить по статьям, не смотревши мюзикл лично) глубоки как "Война и мир". :))))

Attention, all who take their flamingos pink and their living desperate: You will not see the Popular Blonde puke on an amusement-park ride in Broadway’s latest hot-ticket fait accompli, “Hairspray”, a production as tidy competent as John Water’s 1988 midnight movie was defiantely flabby-shabby. The mood survives only in the stops-out opener, where Tracy Turnblad (Marissa Jaret Winokur – winning, nimble, and likely to revive the term “portly pepperpot”) rises majestically from bed and resolves to show Kennedy-era Baltimore she can mash potatoes with the skinnies on TV. Rats scramble over her feet. A flasher darts by. But by mid-act, all that glorious polyester is coated in polyurethane – a sleek, prefab blockbuster upon us.

To be fair, it wasn’t Water’s genial sense of seedy subversion that “Hairspray”’s producers were after – just the box-office guarantee of camp and nostalgia, coupled with primal urge to drape Harvey Fierstein in enough drag to wrap the Pont-Neuf. And, thanks to a remarkably strong cast and the Lights! Candy! Action! Brio of Jack O’Bien’s direction, that’s sufficient to rattle rafters in distant Maryland – a notable feat, considering Marc Shaiman and Scott Whittman’s ruthlessly smooth ‘60s-pastiche tunes fade after every button, and choreographer Jerry Mitchell’s hoofery evokes a good high school production of “Grease”. But Fierstein, as Tracy’s mountainous mother, Edna, rises above all – literally – with a singing voice that sounds like Popeye swallowing a weed-eater – hands down, the most oddly charming noise ever made by human being. He and Winokur have combined stage presence and body mass of the entire Cirque du Soleil.

So why saddle these jaggernauts with tiresome, Lifetime-standard body-image issues? At its plump bottom, “Hairspray” is supposed to be about what happens when the fat girl is on top – arbitrary and without apology. Waters took that for granted 14 years ago; today, it apparently needs explaining. Racial strife, too, was simply part of his 2-D Baltimore back-drop; today, we get an 11th-hour “we shall overcome” spiritual, which, in a show that exults in the line “the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice”, is like inviting a rabbi to say Kaddish after “Springtime for Hitler”. There’s only one treatment for such generic primness: a remount in glorious Odorama. But even that’s no cure – scratch this show and what you sniff is New Car Smell.

Кто-то тут говорил, что в "Лаке для волос" одну из женских ролей мужик играет - точно, играет. :) Вот это существо в перьях - и есть оно. Актер по фамилии Fierstein. Это мама главной героини, Эдна. А рядом - сама гл. героиня.

И что самое ужасное, наверняка же этот мюзикл отхватит кучу тоней в следующем году. ;-)))) Хотя с другой стороны у него есть достойные конкуренты - Уайлдхорн и "Танцы с вампирами". ;-))
Кстати, я фамилию Fierstein не в первый раз слышу. Только никак не могу вспомнить, где слышал о нем раньше. :-О

И ведь действительно отхватит! :( Всякая романтичная темень (и даже вампиры) фирменному бродвейскому тру-ля-ля в глазах американских критиков не конкурент. :(((( Не любят они "оперообразных" мюзиклов (ну, где сюжет такой, что ах! и где в конце "в общем, все умерли".)

Этот Фирстайн мог быть в каком-нибудь кино. У них последнее время мода в мюзиклы тащить киноактеров (В Sweet smell of success в прошлом году играл какой-то примелькавшийся дяденька). Да и в "Продюсерах" был на гл. роли Натан Лейн ("Мышиная охота" и проч.).

Кстати не только мы думаем о Тоне для лака для волос. ;-))

Это с форума musicals.net. Хотя лично я бы предположил, что лучшим ревайвлом будет не Gipsy, а все-таки Flower Drum song, хотя бы из-за столетия дяди Роджерса. ;-))))

Is it time to start worrying about the dumbing down of the Broadway musical? The trend is alarming. Say what you will about the Brit-pop musicals that dominated Broadway in the 1980s and ‘90s, but shows like "Les Miserables", "Miss Saigon" and "The Phantom of the Opera" at least had big ambitions and tried to engage the audience emotionally. The Broadway hits of the past five years have been of a different, more frivolous sort. Most of them are aimed at kids (“The Lion King”), or they hark back to old-fashioned eras with tongue planted in cheek (“42 street”, “Thoroughly Modern Millie”), or they have books that are too patently silly for any sentient adult to pay attention (“Mamma Mia!”). Even “The Producers”, for all its pleasures, gets much of its comedy from Friar’s Club jokes about big bazooms and limp-wristed homosexuals, gags that passed muster only because they came from a reverent master, Mel Brooks.

No one wants “Hairspray” to be Les Miz, but real emotion is better than fake, and sometimes audience needs more than just a big tease.

Разве это мюзикл? Где степ? Где кордебалет раздетых девушек в цилиндрах и с тросточками? Почему все так мрачно? Почему музыка такая заунывная? :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Можно ли использовать одновременно Бриолин и Лак для Волос....?

Ничего не буду говорить о сюжете:) НО...слушается очень хорошо...
Пока слушаешь первое, что всплывает в памяти - Бриолин...
Оно и понятно : те же 60-е...потому и общая стилистика музыки схожа.. Отсутсвие глубокого смысла меня не покоробило и не смутило... Все очень живенько:)

Мамаша Эдны очень колоритная фигура (во всех смыслах) - по звучанию напоминает эту...как ее..ну короче вредную Улитку из "Корпорации монстров"...да и внешне тоже что-то есть:)...
Дослушав до конца появилось желание переслушать.. честно...последний трек "You can't stop the beat" слушал два раза подряд:) понравилось очень:)....

иногда можно послушать... если уж совсем, дурацкое настроение........такая весёленькая полубредятина....:p :p :p

Случайно попал на мтв на финал VH-1 AWARDS... а там последним номером музыкальной программы был You can'[t stop the beat из Hairspray... здорово блин!!!!! весело! ярко! эх... посмотреть бы это целиком!:D
