Scottish movie star GERARD BUTLER owes his part as the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA to his restraint - because he had to sit silently through a CELTIC soccer match the evening before he auditioned.
The actor didn't want to ruin his chances of landing the role when he first met with Phantom creator LORD ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, so he chose not to scream himself hoarse in his native Glasgow, Scotland, the night before.
He explains, "Celtic were in the semi-final of the European Cup - and it was the first time they've been in it for many years.
"I went to the game the night before the audition in Glasgow with all my crazy Glaswegian friends, who screamed at the top of their lungs the whole night. I had to sit there and clap to protect my voice because I was singing for Andrew Lloyd Webber the next day in London."
