Tremors Recorded After
Release of Butler Pics
[Montreal, 12/24/05] The United States Geological Survey reported Saturday that a minor earthquake, followed by several aftershocks, was recorded in Canada Friday evening. The earthquake, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, was centered in Montreal, but was felt as far away as Europe and Australia.
Scientists were at first mystified by this rare seismic activity in the Montreal region. They identified the epicenter as a converted warehouse, now used as a film studio, where the Warner Brothers’ movie “300” is currently filming. Seismologists interviewed a janitor at the studio, who reported that the cast and crew were absent on a brief holiday hiatus. He noted, however, that Friday was the scheduled launch date of the official “300” website, which features numerous revealing photographs of the film’s star Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera).
Apparently, current photographs of Butler -- who has a large and fanatical female following -- have been rare in recent weeks. Scientists determined that when the website posted the new photos, the reaction in cyberspace was so intense that it actually affected North American plate tectonics.
Journalists contacted members of one of Butler’s numerous fan sites, “Gerard Butler Fans”, to get their reaction to the photographs. One member, who asked to remain anonymous, was quoted as saying “those hot new pics of the G-man are carbonating my hormones!” Another member declared that “I think I just had an orgasm...oh God, I'm having another one!" while another said "bring me some oxygen!... or better yet, bring me Gerry and I'll die a happy woman!" Butler’s extremely abbreviated and well-filled leather loincloth elicited much ribald comment, most of it unfit to print in a family newspaper.
After assurances that the “300” website will continue to post photos and reports, Canadian officials are optimistically predicting that Montreal will experience no more seismic activity
