Chess − a fascinating game, head to head, move by move, till one of the players is checkmated. At a chess tournament in New York, the American world champion Frederick Trumper and his Russian challenger Anatoly Sergievsky go head to head – in a game that will change both of their lives. The aggressive Trumper is dethroned as world champion and loses his second, Florence Vassy, to Sergievsky, while the latter decides to defect to the West. A year later, the opponents meet again in Bangkok…
Shortly after the break-up of the Swedish supergroup ABBA, the band’s two male vocalists – Benny Andersson and Bjørn Ulvaeus – took the world by surprise with an extraordinary project. Together with Tim Rice, they had written a musical, which premiered in London in 1986. “Chess,” with hit songs like “One Night In Bangkok“ and “I Know Him So Well,“ is now on stage in Dresden for the very first time.
